Visiting Moscow
We are excited to welcome you for our annual University of Idaho Graduate English Conference in Moscow, Idaho! We have compiled some information, recommendations, and tips to make your visit to Moscow a lot easier. Here are a list of questions you might have before coming here:
How do I get here?
Moscow is a city in Northern Idaho, situated along the Washington/Idaho border. Arriving in Moscow is fairly easy, but because it is not a major metropolitan area, there are some considerations:
-
By car: Major road connections are US 95 (north-south) and Highway 8 (east-west) which are routed through central Moscow.
-
By air: Moscow is serviced by the Pullman/Moscow Regional Airport (PUW) which is approximately 5 miles from the University of Idaho. Some hotels, like the Best Western University Inn, offer a complimentary shuttle to and from the airport. Otherwise, you will probably need to take a taxi. Other nearby airports include Spokane International Airport (GEG)--which is a one hour and 30 minute drive from UI--and the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport (LWS)--which is 45 minutes from UI. Daily shuttles from the Spokane Airport and Lewiston Airport are operated by Wheatland Express and Northwestern Trailways.
-
By bus: Northwestern Trailways offers daily bus services to Moscow, ID from Western Washington (via Spokane) and from Southern Idaho to Moscow.
There are plenty of hotel options within walking distance of the University of Idaho campus and downtown Moscow. Here's a list of our recommedations:

Where do I stay?
How do I get from place to place?
Moscow covers a fairly small area--it's less than 10 miles across--with downtown and the University of Idaho at its center. It's pretty easy to get around, even for visitors unfamiliar with the area. Here are a few things to consider as you work to get from Point A to Point B:
-
On foot: Moscow's sidewalks and bike lanes make it easy to navigate without a car or taxi. To make walking around campus easier, check out a map of the university.
-
By car: When you do have you're own mode of transportation, it can be difficult to navigate parking on campus and in town. Parking on the street is free off-campus (unless otherwise stated). Most parking in and around downtown has a 3 hour limit, so, keep this in mind when deciding where to park. UI has a reciprocal agreement with Washington State University allowing you to park with WSU permits on campus. For other visitors, Red, Purple, and Silver lots are free on the weekends and after 5 pm on weekdays.
-
By bus: Moscow provides a free fixed-route bus schedule on weekdays before 6 pm. If you don't feel like walking, feel free to grab a ride at a bus stop.
-
By taxi: If your hotel does not provide a shuttle service, then a taxi is the best way to go to and from the airport.
Where should I eat?
Most of the dining options on campus are closed during the weekend. However, there are a lot of options to satisfy your culinary curiosity in downtown Moscow. Feel free to call ahead. Several places take reservations for lunch and dinner.
-
Coffee & tea: There are several local coffee shops in downtown Moscow where you can enjoy a cup of coffee and complimentary wifi. For the best brew, be sure to check out:
